Thought of the Day

helping others is a good way of taking your mind off your own troubles through codependency and a false sense of altruism

Popeye the Sailor Man

i love to study strength. whether it's kobe bryant's determination to win, donovan mcnabb's ability to withstand a broken ankle, michael phelps' drive to achieve, tiger woods' disciplined talent, john mccain's endurance to survive, or some other feat of both mental and physical prowess leading to greatness-- i love to study strength.
it is my contention that none of these come close to the real definition of strength. all of these feats are artificial attempts, and although successfully completed, they only serve to attain artificial goals.
except maybe mccain's. wanting to "not die" isn't exactly artificial.
there is one real source of strength, and one that can't be compared to any other.
it is the strength of a mother.
only a mother can work two jobs then come home to cook and clean to provide for her child.
only a mother can put her family on her back, completely disregarding her own.
only a mother can endure unhappiness for years to ensure happiness for her young.
only a mother knows the bond between her and the child that grew inside her.
no one else.
i have seen feats of greatness and i have seen a mother's strength. there is no comparison.
it is also the least flaunted.
